Sammy's Shopping Adventure: Needs vs. Wants

Sammy woke up excited. Today was his special shopping day with Mom! He had saved his allowance and was ready to help. "Remember, Sammy," Mom said, "We need to think about our needs and wants while we shop."

At the grocery store, the aisles stretched out like a rainbow. "What do we need to buy first?" Mom asked. Sammy pointed to fruits and vegetables. “We need these for our meals!” Mom smiled, “Exactly! Healthy food is a need.”

As they moved to the next aisle, Sammy saw a big box of cookies. “Can we get these?” he asked. Mom replied, “Well, cookies are a want. We can buy them if we have enough money after our needs.” Sammy nodded, thinking about saving some money.

In the dairy aisle, they picked up milk, cheese, and yogurt. “These are needs too, right?” Sammy confirmed. “Yes! And we can always save some of our budget for a fun treat later,” said Mom. Sammy felt proud of his choices.

Finally, it was time to check out. Sammy looked at his money. “Can we buy the cookies now, Mom?” Mom smiled, “Yes, we can! You’ve made smart choices today.” They bought the cookies and left feeling happy. Sammy learned that needs come first, but it’s also nice to enjoy a want!
