It was the morning of Chinese New Year, and Mei woke up with a happy flutter in her tummy. Today was extra special! She jumped out of bed, eager to see what the day would bring.

She ran to the living room where her Nai Nai was already hanging bright red lanterns. "Gong Xi Fa Cai, Nai Nai!" Mei said, remembering the special greeting. "Happy New Year!"

Nai Nai smiled. "Gong Xi Fa Cai, little one! Today we celebrate new beginnings and good fortune. We will eat delicious food, wear new clothes, and visit family."

First, they helped prepare the New Year's feast. Mei helped wrap dumplings, called "jiaozi." Nai Nai told her that dumplings look like ancient gold ingots, bringing wealth for the year.

Later, family arrived, bringing laughter and joy. Mei received a red envelope, or "hongbao," from her aunt. Nai Nai explained that the red color symbolizes good luck and warding off evil spirits.

After a wonderful dinner, everyone gathered to watch the lion dance! The dancers moved with amazing energy, making the colorful lion costume leap and twirl to the beat of drums.

Mei learned that the lion dance chases away bad luck and brings good fortune for the new year. It was so exciting, she almost wanted to join in!

Before bed, Nai Nai showed Mei a picture of the twelve zodiac animals. "Each year is named after an animal," she explained. "This year is the Year of the Dragon, a symbol of power and good luck!"

Mei traced the dragon with her finger. She felt so happy and full of new knowledge. Chinese New Year was not just a celebration; it was a story of family, tradition, and hope.

As she drifted off to sleep, Mei dreamt of dancing lions, delicious dumplings, and the promise of a lucky new year. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
