Maya loved her tablet. News, videos, and stories popped up every second! But sometimes, a big, bold headline would make her tummy flutter with excitement or confusion.
1
One afternoon, her friend shared a story about a talking cat who could predict the weather! "Wow!" Maya thought, reaching for the share button. But something felt a little… odd.
2
Just then, a different post caught her eye: "Digital Detectives Debunk Talking Cat Tale!" It was from a team called Leo and Zara, who reported news with care and clarity.
3
Maya clicked on their profile. Leo and Zara explained how to check if a story was real. They invited her to a special online workshop. "This is it!" she whispered.
4
"Welcome, Maya!" said Leo, his voice warm. "Our first rule: always check the source. Who wrote this? Is it a real news organisation, or just someone's opinion?"
5
Zara chimed in, "And look at the web address! Does it end in .com, .org, or something else? Sometimes, fake news sites use tricky addresses that look almost real."
6
Next, they showed her how to fact-check. "Don't just believe one story," Zara advised. "Search for the same news on three different, trusted websites. If they all say the same thing, it's probably true!"
7
Leo explained, "Sometimes, stories have a bias. They might only show one side. A good journalist tries to show all sides fairly, so you can make up your own mind."
8
"And remember," Zara added, "when you share something online, you're helping to spread it. Make sure it's true and helpful, not harmful or misleading. You have the power to make the internet a better place!"
9
Maya felt like a true Digital Detective! The next time her friend shared something questionable, Maya gently showed her how to check the facts. Together, they learned to navigate the digital world, one accurate story at a time.
