It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Mia and her family were headed to the grocery store! Mia had $10 saved from her allowance. ‘Today, we’re going to learn the difference between needs and wants,’ Mom said with a smile. ‘Let’s make a list!’

As they entered the grocery store, Mia saw the fresh fruits and vegetables. ‘We need these for healthy meals,’ Mom explained. ‘But over there, those candy bars are a want. We can live without them.’

Mom showed Mia how to prioritize. ‘Let’s buy what we need first,’ she said. ‘We’ll set aside some money for a treat later if we have enough left!’ Mia nodded, excited to make her own choices.

After filling the cart with needs, Mia spotted a bright toy on a high shelf. ‘I want that toy!’ she exclaimed. Mom said, ‘Let’s think about it. Do we need it, or can we save for it later?’

At the checkout, Mia counted her remaining money. ‘I still have $3!’ she said. ‘Can I buy a candy bar?’ Mom replied, ‘Sure! You made great choices today. Remember, it’s okay to treat yourself sometimes!’

Mia learned that needs are what keep us healthy and safe, while wants are fun treats we can enjoy later. ‘Next time, I can save for that toy!’ she said. ‘And I’ll always remember to prioritize!’
