In the big, bustling city of Metropolis, lived a very, very small and very adventurous kitten named Squeaky. His favorite thing to do was chase grasshoppers in the park right next to the wide, sparkling river.
1
One sunny afternoon, a bright yellow butterfly caught Squeaky's eye. It fluttered this way and that, leading him on a merry chase closer and closer to the water's edge. With one final, wobbly leap... SPLOOSH!
2
Oh no! The river was much faster than it looked. The current grabbed tiny Squeaky and started to pull him away from the shore. "Meeew!" he cried, a sound so small it was almost lost in the noise of the city.
3
But someone heard it. High above the tallest buildings, Superman was on patrol. His super-hearing could pick up any sound of trouble, no matter how big... or how small. He paused in the air, listening carefully.
4
"That sounds like a very tiny someone in a very big pickle," he thought. He zoomed his super-vision down towards the river and saw it: a little speck of fur, floating farther and farther away.
5
WHOOSH! Faster than a speeding train, Superman dove through the air. The wind whistled past his red cape as he raced towards the little kitten in the big river.
6
He reached the river in a flash. Instead of making a big splash, he hovered gently and carefully scooped the shivering kitten up with just two fingers. "Gotcha, little guy," he said with a warm smile.
7
With the kitten held safely, Superman flew back to the park. He saw a little girl with tears in her eyes, calling out a name. "Squeaky? Squeaky, where are you?"
8
Superman landed as softly as a feather. "I believe this brave adventurer belongs to you," he said, handing the purring kitten to the little girl. Her face lit up with joy! "Squeaky! Oh, thank you, thank you, Superman!"
9
With a friendly wink and a wave, Superman leaped back into the sky. Squeaky, safe and sound, snuggled into his owner's arms, already dreaming of his next, slightly less wet, adventure.
