Lily loved Saturdays. Saturdays were for adventures with Grandma. But this Saturday, Grandma was busy in her garden. "I'm sorry, sweetpea," she said, wiping her brow. "These weeds won't pull themselves!"
Lily sighed and slumped onto the porch swing. A little brown squirrel with a very bushy tail scampered down a nearby oak tree. It was her friend, Squeaky.
"What's wrong, Lily?" chittered Squeaky, tilting his head. "Grandma is too busy for me today," Lily mumbled, kicking her feet.
Squeaky twitched his nose. "Busy is a funny thing," he said. "My family is always busy gathering nuts for the winter. We scamper and scurry all day long!"
"But you still have time to play with me," said Lily. "Of course!" said Squeaky. "Because you're my friend. Being busy doesn't mean you stop caring."
Lily thought about that. Grandma was busy, but she still made her breakfast and gave her a big hug this morning. An idea sparked in Lily's mind.
She hopped off the swing. "Squeaky, will you help me?" she asked. "Let's be busy helpers!" Together, they found a small watering can and a little trowel.
Lily carefully watered the flowers while Squeaky dug tiny holes for new seeds. They worked beside Grandma, who hummed a happy tune as she weeded.
Soon, the garden looked wonderful. "What a fantastic helper you are, Lily!" Grandma said, pulling her into a big, earthy-smelling hug. "And you too, little Squeaky!"
That afternoon, they all sat on the porch swing together, sipping lemonade. Lily learned that even when people are busy, you can find ways to be together. And that made it the best Saturday of all.
